Course Content

 Quantitative analysis of discrete-event systems, including computer systems and networks, both by statistical tools and by simulation. Poisson arrivals. Markov processes. Queueing theory: M/M/1, M/M/c, M/M/1/K, M/M/1/K/K models. Queueing networks, Jackson networks, BCMP networks. Discrete-event simulation: random number generation, simulation of Poisson arrivals, simulation of queueing networks. Simulation using Arena.

Learning Outcomes

 Upon completion of the course, students will have

  • the knowledge of the basic building blocks of a simulation program;
  • the capability to use statistical tools for system modelling;
  • the capability to use simulation software such as Arena.
